My experience at AUI has been one of the WORST experiences I've ever had with a medical facility. YOU NEED TO READ THIS! I was referred to AUI after my primary physician was unable to find a cause for my symptoms after a series of testing. Initially, when I went to AUI, I was never ordered to complete any further testing; Dr. Burday immediately scheduled me to have diagnostic surgery the next day. ($$$) Prior to the surgery, I was told that I would be in minimal pain/discomfort and would be able to return to my normal activities within a day or so. When my surgery was over and I was awake, I was told that they didn’t find anything wrong with any of the organs they checked, there was some friable tissue noticed, but that’s all and I was free to go home. I REQUESTED something for pain so that when the anesthesia and IV meds from the surgery wore off, I wouldn’t be in terrible pain. I also REQUESTED that they give me something so that I don’t constantly feel like I have to urinate (they went in through my urethra). The nurse provided me with ONE Percocet and an anti-spasm pill. Within 2 hours of leaving the surgery center I was at the ER, doubled over in excruciating pain, unable to sit or stand. At the ER I was given a different anti spasm pill, Tramadol and Morphine before I was able to sit comfortably. I guess it’s safe to say the ONE Percocet I was given was not sufficient! What would my pain have been like if I hadn’t requested any medicine to go home with?? I waited about a week after the surgery and my symptoms persisted and even seemed a bit worse. I called the office to request a follow-up appointment sooner than the one they set in April. Almost every person that I spoke to on the phone was rude and it seemed as if they’d rather be anywhere else than at work on the phone with me at the time. Finally, I convinced someone that I needed to be seen immediately despite my surgery not revealing any serious issues. I was told that Dr. Burday didn’t have any appointments available until spring, and I would be scheduled to see a nurse practitioner. I questioned that decision as I wanted to be sure I was receiving the best treatment possible. The office was firm in their decision and I was scheduled to see Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Scott… Honestly, Dr. Scott was the only one in the entire building that seemed to genuinely care about my wellbeing. It seemed everyone else was just going through the motions, providing short answers and phony customer service. Dr. Scott reviewed my recent history and notes from the surgery and basically said the friable tissue that was observed during my surgery is not something that should’ve been overlooked and could be the actual cause of my illness/symptoms!! Dr. Scott decided to send me for some additional testing to test his theory and he put me on a prescription. Within days of taking the medicine that Dr. Scott provided, my symptoms began to lessen. All my test results came back and Dr. Scott was right!! We were able to determine the cause of my symptoms by simple blood and urine tests. THE SURGERY WAS NEVER NEEDED!! Once the test results came back, the doctor’s office called and extended my prescription for another week.. After 2 weeks of being on the prescribed medication, my symptoms began to dissipate, but weren’t completely gone. When I saw Dr. Scott for my follow up appointment, I asked him if I needed to additional testing to ensure that the prescription worked completely. He told me there was no need to do additional testing as the prescription he provided is sufficient. Within 48 hours of that appointment, my symptoms had fully returned! This concerned me so I called AUI again and requested a ANOTHER APPOINTMENT ($40 co-pay each time!!) .
